PENANG has achieved a remarkable 90% recovery in passenger movement, signifying a steady rebound in tourism activities.

Yeoh Soon Hin, the caretaker state exco for Tourism and Creative Economy (Petace), expressed his delight in the recovery rate (in comparison to the first quarter of 2019) during Petace’s Media Appreciation Night at Penang Golf Club tonight.

The theme, ‘Rebound In Style,’ perfectly encapsulated the positive momentum.

“I am confident we will record 100% recovery by the end of this year.

“The number of international direct flights has also increased to 84% compared to May 2019 and May 2023, indicating growing connectivity and interest in Penang as a tourist destination.

“We acknowledge that this remarkable recovery would not have been possible without the unwavering support and dedication of our media friends.

“The media’s relentless pursuit of excellence in travel features and documentaries has been instrumental in putting Penang on the global tourism map. Your in-depth coverage of our beautiful home, Penang, has been nothing short of inspiring.

“The stories you have shared about our vibrant street art, colonial architecture, and cultural festivals have encouraged visitors from far and wide to experience the unique tapestry of Penang’s identity,” Yeoh said.
