SEVERAL companies and individual donors have responded to the Penang Health Department’s appeal by donating several medical and non-medical equipment today.
The items will be used at the low-risk Covid-19 treatment and quarantine centre (LRCC) in Caring Society Complex.
Oriental Holdings Berhad executive director Datuk Seri Tan Hui Jing said the company had allocated RM5 million to support the country’s healthcare system to combat the Covid-19.
“We are very concerned with the current situation and we want to join in the fight against the pandemic.
“We are donating a defibrillator with pacing, seven vital signs monitors, 20 syringe pumps, two emergency patient trolleys, 48 IV drip stands, two ECG machines, and 20 wheelchairs for them to be used at the LRCC in Caring Society Complex.
“We hope that our contributions can benefit the community,” he said before presenting the items to Penang Health Department chief assistant director (medical) Dr A. Lingeshwaran at the Caring Society Complex today.
The simple presentation was witnessed by state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, Senator Lim Hui Ying, Penang Medical Tourism (PMED) executive director Dr Mary Ann Harris and Oriental Holdings Berhad corporate social responsibility project leader Dr Tan Hui Ling.
Oriental Holdings Berhad had also earlier committed RM500,000 worth of medical equipment and supplies to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Georgetown-Wellings Pharmacy Group contributed 20 wheelchairs to the state Health Department to support the LRCC in Caring Society Complex.
Georgetown-Wellings Pharmacy Group managing director Mah Choon Leng said the medical frontliners were risking their lives battling Covid-19.
“Our Government is trying its best to curb the pandemic. We understand that the state is in need of help, in terms of medical equipment, to save lives,” Mah expressed their eagerness to help.
Separately, the representatives from the Persatuan Penganut Dewa Lam Kit Sean Ong Tean also presented several medical and non-medical equipment worth RM34,900 to Dr Lingeshwaran.
The items presented were a patient monitor, two drip stands, six canvas beds, an ECG machine, one PT treatment recovery trolley, a signage, and an AED defibrillator.
There were also individual donors who were present to handover a patient monitor, five drip stands and two heavy duty industrial fans to the state Health Department.
Yeoh thanked the contributors for assisting the state in its fight against the pandemic.
“I hope that more private companies will step forward to help our health facilities,” he said.
Ng said the contributors from the Persatuan Penganut Dewa Lam Kit Sean Ong Tean had initially wanted to contribute food baskets to the needy.
“However, I told them that we have enough supplies for now.
“When Dr Lingeshwaran told me that the state Health Department needed some medical and non-medical equipment, I informed the donors,” Ng said.
Ng commended all the donors.
“We are thankful that many people are still willing to offer their help to the community during this difficult period. We hope that we are able to quickly overcome this pandemic.
“We also hope that the vaccination programme will be accelerated,” Ng said.
