Kit Siang’s 82nd birthday celebrated in grand ceremony

 

DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang’s 82nd birthday celebration was held in a grand manner in Penang today.

Pakatan Harapan leaders from across the country were present to celebrate the occasion.

He was also overwhelmed by many warm birthday wishes.

Held at St Giles The Wembley Hotel, the veteran politician’s birthday party included singing performances and a sumptuous course dinner.

In his speech, Kit Siang expressed his gratitude for all the well wishes.

He said that he hoped to see a better Malaysia, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“We have come a long way and I won’t retire from politics although I have retired from frontline politics,” he said.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present, thanked Kit Siang for his political struggles.

“The political belief and struggles that you have faced all these while are valuable as we have taken over the administration of Penang, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan; and most importantly, Putrajaya last year.

“Your sacrifices are not in vain as I believe you were the happiest man when we once again took over Putrajaya.

“We are grateful that your political journey has taken us to greater heights despite the various trials and tribulations you faced,” he said.

Chow said that many Pakatan Harapan leaders shared the aspiration and struggles of Kit Siang.

“You are the reason for us to continue our fight,” he added.

Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng praised his father, Kit Siang, for the sacrifices he made for the country.

“We have gone through difficult times, but our courage and determination have brought us through,” he said.

Kit Siang’s daughter Lim Hui Ying, who is also Deputy Education Minister, was encouraged by her father’s motivation and guidance.

At the end of the event, a birthday cake-cutting ceremony was held.

Among those present were Kit Siang’s wife Neo Yoke Tee, Chow’s wife Tan Lean Kee and several Pakatan Harapan leaders.
