THE Kiwanis Club of Penang Central (KCPC) hopes to continue empowering the community and collaborating with the state government in its ‘Love Penang’ programme.
Dr Ngoo Seong Boon, the president of KCPC for the term 2023-2025, expressed his enthusiasm towards contributing to Kiwanis’ mission and achieving a 5-star and distinguished club status.
“As the incoming president of KCPC, I am excited to contribute to the Kiwanis’ aspiration.
“I commit to working closely with advisers, boards, committee chairs, and members, along with our aim to achieve the 5-star and distinguished club status.
“This includes connecting new and experienced members to enhance the membership experience and boost Kiwanis branding in the community and education and also to be part of the state government’s initiative, the ‘Love Penang’ programme,” Ngoo said during his speech at the installation dinner at the ThirtyTwo at The Mansion on Nov 3.
All the KCPC programmes are aligned with Kiwanis Global Mission of ‘improving the world one child and one community at a time’.
Ngoo also mentioned that the KCPC has been established on a solid foundation, with a diverse membership that is both united and distinctive, and with full commitment to community service.
“Of course, we will also uphold our Kiwanis Malaysia governor Mr Michael Chiew’s vision of ‘One Team One Mission’.
“To all my fellow KCPC colleagues, with the Kiwanis objectives in mind, I look forward to your continuous mentorship, guidance, and support to enhance our community impact,” he added.
Meanwhile, KCPC chartered president Datuk Seri Wong SH shared some of the key programmes organised by the club for the community, namely ‘Kiwanis Educates Children for the Future’, Young Enterprise’ programne and ‘Mental Health’ series.
“Mental health is getting more critical during the post-pandemic period, which is why we feel that we should carry on with the programme.
“Throughout the pandemic, we collaborated with the Penang Care Society and mental health professionals to assist individuals affected by mental health challenges due to Covid-19, as well as provided food aid support to numerous families.
“We stay committed to supporting underprivileged segments of the community, with a specific focus on youth.
“Additionally, we have established Kiwanis youth clubs in two schools, further demonstrating our dedication to helping children and young people,” he added.
At the dinner, the KCPC donated RM35,000 to seven non-governmental organisations with each organisation receiving RM5,000.
The seven NGO’s are BE Home, FOCCAN, Happy Retirement Home, Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital, Persatuan Orang Cacat Negeri Pulau Pinang, Kiwanis Khir Johari Foundation, Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Terencat Akal Pulau Pinang.
