THE Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has approved RM20.98 million for Penang this year under the Housing Maintenance Programme (PPP) and the Malaysian Housing Maintenance Fund (TPPM).
State Housing and Environment Committee Chairman, Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu, said the allocation will fund 57 maintenance projects involving both public and private housing areas.
“The maintenance works will be carried out by the Penang State Housing Board (LPNPP), Penang Island City Council (MBPP), and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP).
“We would like to thank the KPKT for approving the allocation, as proper maintenance is crucial to ensure a safe, comfortable, and quality living environment for residents,” Sundarajoo said during a press conference held at Taman Tun Sardon Flats recently.

Sundarajoo also shared that, for Taman Tun Sardon Flats, the KPKT has approved four key maintenance projects under the PPP.
“These projects include electrical rewiring, replacement of corridor railings, roof repair, and road resurfacing, with a total allocation of RM900,000.
“The projects followed a proper selection process and were awarded to successful contractors. The work is expected to be completed within 12 weeks, with final completion set for July 4,” he added.
It is learned that the Taman Tun Sardon Flats, consist of a total of 1,260 units, and are under the supervision of the Penang Housing Board (LPNPP).
Apart from that, Sundarajoo said the state government, through LPNPP, is focused on continuing the development of affordable housing while ensuring homes are comfortable for the people.
He shared that eight residential areas in Penang have been identified for the Urban Regeneration Project. These include Mak Mandin, Taman Siakap, and Taman Mesra flats in Seberang Perai, as well as Padang Tembak, Free School, and Taman Tun Sardon flats on the island.
“Urban regeneration projects are a strategic initiative aimed at optimising land use and improving the quality of life for residents, with owners set to benefit from bigger, and upgraded homes. However, we will only proceed with the projects after obtaining the consent of the owners,” he said.
Meanwhile, Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan shared that the Taman Tun Sardon Astaka is also scheduled for upgrade work soon.
