Kudos to Penang Wushu, Lion and Dragon Dance Association for promoting martial art

THE Penang Wushu, Lion and Dragon Dance Association has done a remarkable effort in promoting martial art, especially wushu sports, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

He lauded its president Datuk H’ng Ban Choon for his hard work in lifting the wushu sports.

“We witnessed the achievements of our wushu team during the Sukma (Malaysia Games) held in Kuala Lumpur in September.

“Penang secured two golds, a silver and four bronzes in the wushu event during Sukma. The athletes are from the association and they have made Penang proud.

“This proves that our sports talents are growing and I hope everyone will train hard to deliver the best for Penang and the country.

“H’ng is indeed the pillar of strength ever since taking over the association in 2016,” he said in his speech during the association’s 2022-2025 council swearing-in ceremony in Prangin Mall today.

Chow hoped that the new council members would do their best for the association.

As for the dragon and lion dance, Chow pointed out that it was part of Chinese culture.

“Chinese New Year draws nearer in about a month and I believe everyone can look forward to witnessing the lion and dragon dance performances next month,” he said.

H’ng, earlier in his speech, expressed his utmost gratitude to the state for its support to the association.

“We want to produce more athletes in wushu by nurturing the younger ones,” he said.

Among those present were Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng and Penang State Sports Council (PSSC) director Harry Chai.
