HUNDREDS of individuals showed up at the base of Kek Lok Si Temple as early as 6.30am this morning to participate in the ‘Labour Day Walk’ event, organised by the Air Putih service centre.
Flagged off at about 7am, the walk was participated by both young and old.
Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng graced the event, alongside other familiar faces, namely state Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundarajoo, state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, Jelutong MP RSN Rayer, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh and many others.
The participants walked from the base of the temple towards the Air Itam hill, and then participated in a wide range of activities at the Air Itam Dam.
Event organising chairman Lum Chia How thanked all the participants for taking time off during a public holiday to make the event a success.
“This is an important event not only to commemorate workers on Labour Day but to enable all of us to connect with nature and celebrate the spirit of Penang in the most natural way ever.
“The Air Itam trail holds significant historical and cultural significance, serving as a testament to Penang’s diverse heritage and natural beauty,” Lum said in his speech during the event this morning.
