LAM Research Corporation, a global supplier of innovative wafer fabrication equipment and services to the semiconductor industry, has achieved a remarkable feat with the launching of its largest automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) warehouse in Batu Kawan.
The facility has been recognised in the Malaysia Book of Records as the largest ASRS storage bin capacity in the country.
Praising Lam Research Corporation, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow extended his deepest appreciation to Lam Research Corporation’s initiative.
“I was made to know that this warehouse (30m in height and equipped with advanced automation features) is an important addition to the company’s operational infrastructure.
“When Lam Research Corporation set up this manufacturing facility three years ago, it served as a powerful indicator of the state’s appeal as a hub of innovation.
“This accolade has consolidated Penang’s position as a premier destination for advanced manufacturing.
“I believe Penang has the capabilities to support the needs of industrial players in next-generation technologies,” he said in his speech during his visit to the warehouse today.
Chow said the state was dedicated to strengthening Penang’s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing, adding that the establishment of the warehouse is expected to drive job creation.
“The semiconductor industry is renowned for its high-valued added jobs, offering opportunities for skilled technicians, engineers, and researchers.
“I understand that Lam Research Corporation continuously invests in developing the workforce of the future. I applaud your initiative to prioritise the development of human capital,” said Chow.
Chow said the state remains committed to supporting and developing the state’s industrial ecosystem, commending InvestPenang and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) for their efforts.
Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti) Liew Chin Tong emphasised the importance of the semiconductor ecosystem that has been in place in Penang.
“We need to seize the opportunity to ensure Penang and Malaysia remain steadfastly as the important semiconductor hub.
“Lam Research Corporation has made a tremendous effort with its new warehouse,” he said.
Those who attended the warehouse opening were InvestPenang chief executive officer Datuk Loo Lee Lian, Lam Research Corporation executive vice-president and chief operating officer Pat Lord, and Lam Manufacturing Malaysia general manager Eng Keat Lee.
