IT was a good and fun walk for some 500 people this evening when they took part in a lantern walk here.
Organised by the Student’s Council of SEGi College Penang in collaboration with Penang government, the walk was aimed at fostering unity among the people.
The event, themed ‘There’s No Place Like Home Mid-Autumn Lantern Walk 2019’, started and ended in Jalan Green Hall.
It was held to mark the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow commended the college for organising the event.
“The Mid-Autumn Festival is considered one of the biggest festivals in the Chinese Lunar calendar.
“It helps to foster strong unity, harmony and mutual understanding among the multi-cultural society.
“It’s great to see students taking the initiative to promote good values in the society.
“The Mid-Autumn Festival is also a special occasion for family members to enjoy a variety of mooncakes together,” he said in his speech after the fun walk in front of SEGi College Penang in Jalan Green Hall.
There were cultural performances and stage show at the end of the lantern walk.
Chow also joined a group of children to sing one of the famous Mid-Autumn Festival songs – ‘The Round Moon’.
Each participant was presented with a medal, t-shirt, goodie bag and a certificate of completion.
