The Malaysian Indian FA (MIFA) is all set for its MIFA National Under-12 Tamil School Football Tournament, Malaysia’s largest football tournament for Tamil schools.
The tournament will take place this weekend, Dec 7 and 8, at the Arena KOPA, USM Penang, starting from 8.30am onwards.
According to Penang Indian Football Association (PIFA) president S. Sri Sangar, this year’s edition includes a special category for Tamil school pre-schoolers in Penang, aimed at fostering an early interest in football.
“Through this pre-school category, we hope to cultivate a love for football among the youngest while providing them with early exposure to tournament like this.
“Apart from the pre-schoolers, we also focus on developing young talent among girls,” said Sri.
Sri, who is also the MIFA National Competition chairman, shared these insights with Buletin Mutiara during a recent interview.
A total of 80 teams from Tamil schools nationwide consisting of 40 boys’ teams and 40 girls’ teams (Under-12 Tamil schools) will be participating in the event.
Additionally, 16 teams from pre-school teams in Penang, will participate in the ‘U6 Pre-Tamil Schools’ catergory.
It is learned that the event is approved by Education Ministry and supported by the Youth and Sports Ministry.
