AS the country is transitioning from pandemic to endemic phase of Covid-19 starting April 1, the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) officers manning the entrance of Pulau Tikus Market during pandemic were today stationed there for the last time.

Its assemblyman Chris Lee expressed his appreciation to the Rela personnel for their commitment and hard work during the pandemic for the past two years.

“We are now gradually returning to normalcy, but the necessary standard operating procedures (SOPs) need to be adhered to.

“We are not out of the woods yet as there are still active cases daily, but we are slowly recovering.

Lee hands over a goodies bag to one of the Rela personnel at Pulau Tikus Market.

“Hence, I hope those market-goers can comply with the relevant SOPs when visiting the market although no Rela officers will be around,” he told reporters before giving out goody bags containing basic necessities to the Rela officers at the market.

Lee said prior to the presence of Rela officers at the market, several members from the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) were roped in to assist.

A market-goer is seen scanning the MySejahtera QR code before entering the market while a Rela personnel looks on.

“It is an emotional moment today, as about three to four Rela officers have been monitoring the situation here to ensure the public comply with the SOPs since the pandemic.

“They were mostly on duty from 6.30am to noon daily,” he added.
