THE optional extension of leasehold lands to 99 years and premium discounts offered by the Penang government has been overwhelmingly welcomed by the leaseholders in Kampung Valdor, Nibong Tebal.
During a one-hour dialogue session with the leaseholders, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, and state Land and Mines officials addressed various queries and provided explanations.
Many of those present expressed satisfaction and appreciation for the explanations provided, regarding the types of lands eligible for lease extension.
Following the session, Chow acknowledged the positive feedback from the crowd, especially concerning the 99-year extension of leasehold lands.
“Leaseholders can apply to extend their leasehold lands to any tenure, including 30 years or 60 years, with eligibility for up to a 99-year extension. It is up to them.
“In fact, premium discounts of up to 90%, based on the current land value, were officially announced in 2023.
“We are committed to listening to and acting on the leaseholders’ concerns.
“I hope those present today are satisfied with our explanations, and the feedback provided,” he said.
Chow hoped that the leaseholders would swiftly take advantage of the premium discounts, believing it would benefit them significantly.
The premium discounts cover various categories of land use, including agricultural, residential, commercial, and industrial.
Meanwhile, Goh said he would gather the leaseholders’ applications after the Chinese New Year celebrations and submit them to the relevant authorities.
“We expect a variety of applications from the keen leaseholders,” he said.
