ROCK music lovers, get ready for an explosive rock music concert ‘Rockin’ Arena Penang – Live N Louder’, which is set to happen on Dec 24 at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre.
Being in the music industry for 45 years, the legendary local rock music band ‘Search’ is all geared up to entertain the crowd with their numerous hit songs.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin warmly welcomed the rock band to Penang.
“I would like to thank the organisers and ‘Search’, the greatest rock band in Malaysia, for choosing Penang as the first destination for their musical tour – Rockin’ Arena Tour 2022/2023.
“This would be a grand-scale event in the state’s tourism calendar, and we hope to be chosen once more as the musical tour’s first destination, if it is held again.
“Penang always welcomes international events to introduce it (Penang) as a destination for tourism and creative economy to the world,” Yeoh said during a press conference at Setia SPICE Convention Centre yesterday (Oct 26).
Yeoh added that the arrival of tourists in Penang for art and culture would help to further boost other sectors, namely hotels, transport, food and beverages (F&B) as well as for the operators of tourist attractions.
“With 14,000 tickets up for grabs, we hope the concert will bring about benefits to all parties in Penang.
“One of the classic hits of ‘Search’ is the evergreen Isabella by Bob Lokma.
“I still remember when I first listened to the song, I was in high school.
“I was also informed that the lead singer for the band, Denden Gonzales, is from Indonesia. And this has given us the privilege to strengthen the diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Indonesia.
“We hope that fans from Indonesia will also attend the concert to make it merrier,” Yeoh added.
Meanwhile, the organising committee chairman Datuk Ismail Jusoh said some 10,000 spectators are expected to take part in the concert.
“I feel proud for being able to bring Search to Penang, and I am sure with the presence of Denden Gonjalez (singer), Noordin (guitarist), Kid (guitarist), Yan (bass guitarist), Minn (drummer) and guest keyboard player Firdaus the band will attract the local music lovers to the concert.
“We would like to thank the office of PETACE (state Tourism and Creative Economy), which represents the state government, for their support to organise the show.
“This international concert will serve as a network and attraction for Penang as the ‘Live Concert Destination’ in Asia,” Ismail said.
‘Rockin Arena Penang – Live N Louder’ is also supported by Home of Champions, 57 Studio, Persatuan Anak Seni Pulau Pinang, Suria Rock Stations (SRS), CODA, Mercikkk.Com, Firefly and Setia SPICE.
It is learned that the concert is organised following the success of Search Rockin’ On Rooftop in Kuala Lumpur earlier on Jun 11.
