A TOTAL of 14 teams are all geared up to participate in the upcoming ‘2nd Master Law Teng Huat Cup – Penang Traditional Lion Dance’ competition.
The competition, which is organised by Penang Hong Guan Cultural Association, is set to take place at Komtar Walk on Jan 7 from 1pm onwards.
Visitors to Komtar this Saturday can enjoy watching the troupes showcasing power-packed performances as they vie for honours.
Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng said the event would serve as a platform to promote the art of lion dance and to understand its various characteristics as well as its origin.
“We can see that more people are showing their interest in the lion dance.
“We also have participants who are Indians and Malays as well in this competition.
“Apart from that, it will help to build relationships and inspire the formation of a new generation of lion dancers,” Teh said during the draw lots session for the competition at his service centre on Jan 4.
The 2nd Master Law Teng Huat Cup – Penang Traditional Lion Dance competition is also supported by YB Teh’s office and Jalan Irving Village Community Management Council.
Besides a trophy and medals, the top four teams will be awarded cash prizes of RM1,288, RM688, RM388 and RM188 respectively.
All participating teams will receive certificates of participation.
