THE Lions Club of George Town (LCGT) has come to the aid of a 50-year-old odd job worker who has to undergo heart stent operation at the Penang Hospital.
LCGT president Vincent Yen said they would bear the cost of RM11,200 for Wong Cheong Hin’s operation on Aug 17.
He said Wong had approached the club for some aid.
After getting to know Wong’s plight, Yen said their team visited Wong at his residence and found out that he is unable to work due to his condition. His job requires physical strength, so any strenuous activities would pose a health risk to him.
Yen added that on Feb 23, Wong had a cardiac arrest and underwent operation to clear two of his five blockages at the Penang Hospital. Now, he is scheduled for another operation on Aug 17.
“Due to his medical condition, the operation has to be done immediately. Thus we (LCGT) are donating RM11,200 from our LCGT Heart & Medical Fund to assist Wong with the operation.
“The cost of the operation was initially RM15,000 but was reduced to RM11,200 following an appeal by the club to the hospital,” Yen told a press conference at Bayview Hotel in George Town today.
Yen said the club has also started a fund-raising project so as to sustain their ‘LCGT Heart & Medical Fund’.
“Since we have used the money from our fund, we are now asking the public to help donate to our fund so that we can sustain it and help out more people,’’ he added.
“Those who would like to donate can bank into our account (Lions Club of George Town, Public Bank Account No: 3154718215),’’ added Yen.
Also present was Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim, who thanked LCGT for acting swiftly on Wong’s medical urgency.
