THE Lions Club of Tanjung has contributed medical equipment worth RM15,000 to the Penang Hospital’s Paediatric Oncology Ward, including a vital signs monitor with a trolley and two syringe pumps.

Lions Club of Tanjung president Datuk C.K. Lim presented the equipment to Penang Hospital’s medical deputy director Dr Ibrahim Anwar in the presence of Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang at the handover ceremony.

At a press conference following the ceremony, Ng welcomed private sector contributions towards public healthcare as part of corporate social responsibility efforts.

“As a state assemblyman, I truly appreciate such contributions from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) supporting government hospitals.

“I extend my gratitude to the Lions Club of Tanjung for today’s donation. If other NGOs are interested in contributing, they may contact Penang Hospital’s management to understand its needs,” Ng said.

Dr Ibrahim expressed his appreciation for the donation, noting that such contributions help the hospital meet its increasing medical needs.

“We at Penang Hospital are very grateful for this donation as it continues to aid our medical facilities.

“Most of our equipment operates at 80 to 90 per cent capacity, so contributions like these help alleviate our current demands,” Dr Ibrahim said.

Lim emphasised the importance of caring for children battling critical illnesses, stating that they are not only the hope of their families but also the future of the nation.

“These medical devices will assist in monitoring patients’ vital signs, providing sedation during bone marrow and lumbar procedures, and ensuring the smooth functioning of central venous lines such as Chemoports and Hickman catheters. They will also be used for chemotherapy, intravenous immunoglobulin infusions, and blood transfusions,” Lim explained.

Lim also further expressed the club’s commitment to offering emotional support beyond just medical assistance.

“We want these children to know that they are not alone in their fight and that many people in society care for and support them.

“At Lions Club, we uphold the spirit of ‘Service Beyond Borders, Care Without Differences.’ Regardless of race or background, we strive to help those in need,” he added.

Also present were hospital representatives and Lion Club of Tanjung members.
