THE community from the Air Itam state constituency enjoyed a free health screening at a mini health carnival near the Air Itam state constituency community centre in Lintang Kampung Melayu 1.
Besides benefitting from the free health screening, there were also a health exhibition and other exciting activities held.
Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng thanked the public for attending the health carnival.
“It is important for us to prioritise our health.
“Health screening can help us detect potential health disorders. There is a saying that prevention is better than cure,” he said in his speech today.
Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh thanked the Air Itam state constituency office for organising the meaningful event.
“Despite our busy schedule, we should allocate some time to care for our health. I am very happy to witness this important event being held at the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency,” Ramkarpal said.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the initiative was very much welcomed to improve the quality of life, well-being and health of the local community.
“With the rising cost of living, health screening may not be a priority for most people. Therefore, such efforts are needed and appreciated.
“Congratulations to the Air Itam state constituency office for being the first Kadun in Penang to provide this health check-up.
“In line with the Penang2030 vision, such programmes can aid the B40 group, foster good relationships among the local community and invite everyone to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
“It is hoped that this initiative will encourage other Kaduns to also hold such programmes for the benefit of the local community,” Chow said.
He thanked the participating partners – government agencies, Penang Island City Council (MBPP), private institutions and non-governmental organizations – for making the event a success.
Chow also gave a briefing about the Federal Government’s PeKa B40 scheme.
“The Penang government has fulfilled 90% of its 2018 manifesto promises and there are promises which could not be fulfilled because they overlap with the Federal Government’s plans or powers.
“For example, the state’s plan to initiate the Penang Sihat Programme via the ‘I Love Penang’ card as stated in our 2018 manifesto promises overlapped with Federal Government’s PeKa B40 scheme,” he said.
Later, Chow, Ng, and Ramkarpal visited the exhibition booths.
Also present were MBPP secretary A. Rajendran, Bukit Gelugor penghulu Nasrizal Nasib, and O2 Klinik chief executive officer Dr Koay Chun Hang.
