THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) are all geared up to ensure that the standard operating procedures (SOPs) are complied with at all public spaces.
State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee Jagdeep Singh Deo said both the local councils would conduct spot checks at premises under their purview following the reimplementation of the two-week long movement control order (MCO 2.0) from Jan 13 until Jan 26.
Jagdeep said the local councils would carry out with their enforcement activity not only during the MCO 2.0 but also throughout the state of emergency which was proclaimed in the country till Aug 1.
“Our local councils have come up with their respective action plans to ensure MCO 2.0 is successful implemented.
“If we could cooperate with the authorities and work together to bring down the Covid-19 pandemic, then perhaps the state of emergency declared might be lifted earlier.
“MBPP and MBSP have to double their effort since we have entered the second year of our battle against the pandemic.
“We will be conducting more spot checks and inspections at the premises under the jurisdiction of the local councils,” said Jagdeep during a press conference today.
According to Jagdeep, as of Jan 12 2021, both the local councils have conducted a total 1.36 million inspections with 586,909 checks by MBPP and 771,544 checks by MBSP. Both recorded over 99% compliiance rate.
“Upon the reimplementation of the MCO, the local councils have also listed the do’s and don’ts at public spaces which have been uploaded at their respective websites; MBPP (http://www.mbpp.gov.my/ ) and MBSP (https://www.mbsp.gov.my/index.php/ms/)
Apart from that, Jagdeep said the state government would extend its Home Ownership Campaign till the end of this year.
“The campaign was introduced in June 2020 with the intention to assist the housing sector as well as the buyers through various incentives and exemptions.
“Thus far, 38,149 units of affordable homes have been built, 18,519 are being built and 57,292 are planned to be built,” added Jagdeep.
Also present during the press conference were MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang, MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud and MBPP secretary Datuk Addnan Mohd. Rozali.
Meanwhile, Rozali encouraged the public to use the council’s Cyber Counter which offers a wide range of services (100 services) in order to minimise physical contact.
“For instance, assessment tax payment, application and renewal of licence can be made through Cyber Counter,’’ said Rozali.
