A SYMBOL of unity, community spirit, and the unwavering dedication of the Lions’ Club of George Town has prompted the ‘LovePenang’ signage to extend its reach to the popular tourism spot, Penang Hill.

Initiated by the Penang government and launched on June 10, 2022, the LovePenang campaign is a collective aspiration to rejuvenate social life and foster a sense of togetherness after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present to witness the remarkable occasion, lauded the initiative by the Lions’ Club of George Town.

“As we unveil the LovePenang signage, this is not merely an act of revealing a physical symbol, but a declaration of our collective commitment. Orchestrated by the Lions’ Club of George Town, this signifies a pivotal moment in our journey towards a stronger and more resilient community.

Chow welcomed the guests from the Lions’ Club of George Town network, consisting of 15 twinned clubs across Asia with representatives from Japan, China, Taiwan, Macau, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Sabah and Sarawak.

“I hope every one of you can explore Penang and immerse yourselves,” he said.

Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) general manager Datuk Cheok Lay Leng praised the collaboration for a meaningful cause.

“The Lions’ Club has not only adorned the hill with a beautiful symbol of affection but also celebrated our shared love and appreciation,” he said.

Cheok said the collaboration marks an important milestone in conjunction with Penang Hill Railway’s 100th anniversary.

Also present during the event were state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, Kebun Bunga assemblyman Lee Boon Heng, and Lions Club of George Town president Chuah Guan Leong.
