Low-risk Covid-19 centre is ready

THE Penang government, with the assistance from Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia, has set up a low-risk Covid-19 centre at the Caring Society Complex here.

 

Penang Environment and Welfare Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said the preparation was made today (Nov 17) and the centre would be placed on standby as per the request by the Health Ministry.

 

“The centre is for those who are asymptomatic and are under observation,” he said.

 

Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia commissioner Khoo Boo Leong said the society is committed to support the frontliners in their effort to break the chain of Covid-19 infection.

“We are here to help and to show that we care for the community and society,” he said when met at the centre today.

 

The society provided 100 mattresses, 100 pillows, six industrial fans and two water dispensers.

 

The volunteers also helped to set up 90 multi-purpose foldable beds at the low-risk Covid-19 centre.

Since Oct 8 this year, the Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia in Penang has donated 12,700 face masks; 400 blankets; 3,000 face shields; 6,240 isolation gowns; 10,000 gloves; 500 packets of biscuits; 40 packets of multi-grain powder; 200 packets of instant rice; and 200 packets of instant noodles.

 

Besides that, it has given away 1,008 bottles of mineral water; 28,000 cans of drink; 370 mattresses; 300 pillows; six industrial fans and two water dispensers. The society has also lent 432 multi-purpose foldable beds.

 

Earlier today, the Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia in Penang handed over 400 sets of isolation gowns; 1,000 gloves and 400 face masks to the Penang Fire and Rescue Department at its headquarters in Batu Kawan.

 

On Nov 15, Tzu-Chi donated 200 isolation gowns; 1,000 gloves and 200 face masks to the Kamunting Detention Centre

 

The society also gave 40 sets of isolation gowns; 1,000 gloves; 200 face masks and 30 multi-purpose foldable beds to the Immigration Detention Centre in Juru on Nov 14.
