A DAZZLING Christmas lighting event marked the start of M Summit Group’s 25th anniversary countdown at The Granite Luxury Hotel.
This evening was a blend of festive cheer and reflection on the Group’s remarkable journey since its inception in 2000.
Welcoming guests to the celebration, M Summit Group founder and chairman Datuk Albert Moh emphasised the significance of the milestone.
He announced that the Group’s silver jubilee would be celebrated with a series of exciting events and meaningful charity efforts throughout 2025, culminating in a grand anniversary dinner in August.
Albert recounted his inspiring journey from humble beginnings as a ‘kopi kia’ (a drink server in Hokkien dialect) delivering drinks at a coffee shop in Carnarvon Street, to founding M Summit with just two employees and a small office.
He highlighted the importance of perseverance.
“As the Hokkien saying goes, ‘Bo hoo, heh ma ho’ – if there are no fish, prawns will do. These words guided me through challenging times,” Albert said.
Today, M Summit stands tall with achievements like Penang’s first private affordable housing, Ramah Pavilion, and the innovative The Granite Luxury Hotel, home to Malaysia’s tallest automated car park and highest cantilevered acrylic-bottom swimming pool.
He also acknowledged the key factors behind M Summit’s success.
“M Summit’s success stems from the support of the state government, loyal patrons, corporate partners, and most importantly, our dedicated staff.
“Without your support and commitment, M Summit would not be here today,” he said.
As a gesture of appreciation, he shared that the company organises annual trips for employees with at least two years of service.
“In 2023, it was Australia. But for this year, in conjunction with our 25th anniversary, we are going to celebrate Christmas and the New Year in London,” Albert announced to applause.
True to the season of giving, the event included a heartfelt gesture towards children from Ru Yi Children’s Home and Crystal Family Home.
Each child’s Christmas wish was fulfilled, and both homes received mock cheques of RM2,000.
“Their smiles are our greatest reward,” Albert said.
The Granite Luxury Hotel guests were also treated to a unique Christmas experience, with the announcement that those staying between Dec 18 and Dec 27 would enjoy a Home Alone-inspired holiday.
“The guests get to pick a gift per room from under the Christmas tree. Costing a whopping RM60,000, the gifts will include branded bags from Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior as well as other items,” he said.
Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai praised M Summit’s role in shaping Penang’s housing and hospitality sectors.
“For nearly 25 years, this esteemed developer has not only helped shape Penang’s skyline but also fostered creativity and sustainability in the economy,” he said, highlighting the Group’s benchmarks in excellence.
Wong described December as a magical time in Penang, brimming with festivities and attractions that captivate visitors from near and far.
He highlighted some of the state’s highly anticipated events, including the 2024 Penang Bridge International Marathon and the Penang Chingay Parade 2024.
“Visitors can look forward to family-friendly activities, vibrant cultural celebrations, and, of course, indulging in Penang’s famous street food,” he said.
He also noted that guests staying at The Granite Luxury Hotel enjoy unparalleled convenience, as its central location in George Town provides easy access to the city’s lively street food scene.
A caroling performance by the Joyful Caroling Choir added to the festive atmosphere, and the event concluded with refreshments and warm wishes.
Also present were Albert’s wife Datin Jennifer Ong, Manpal Singh (representing Tanjong MP Lim Hui Ying), and Penang Island City Council councillor Alan Lim (representing Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng), M Summit Group chief executive officer Moh Wei Ren, and The Granite Luxury Hotel general manager Moh Wei Ken.
