CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow paid tribute to the sacrifices of former service members of the Malaysian Armed Forces Chinese Veterans’ Association (MACVA) who defended the nation’s sovereignty and peace.
He acknowledged their loyalty, honour and excellence in duty, expressing confidence in their commitment to defending the country if called upon.
“MACVA acts as a bridge fostering camaraderie among its members and providing opportunities for veterans to reconnect.
“In fact, MACVA also takes care of underprivileged veterans,” he said in his speech during the friendship luncheon with MACVA members at the Elite House in Jelutong today.
During the event, Chow presented appreciation certificates to some of the MACVA members for their remarkable roles in defending the country.
He pointed out that their sacrifices should be valued by the younger generation as they were the pillars behind the country’s success.
MACVA Northern Chapter chairman Ng Chor Huat expressed his gratitude to Chow for attending the luncheon.
He expressed hope that the state and MACVA can collaborate to further strengthen their bond.
Among those present during the luncheon were organising chairman Tan Soon Seng and MACVA management committee member Mary Koh.
Addressing a separate matter, Chow responded to a reporter’s inquiry about the long queues at Penang International Airport (PIA) yesterday (Dec 2).
He said that the Federal Government needs to look into the matter and suggested increasing personnel at the Immigration counters for passengers’ convenience.
“More manpower must be beefed up for passengers’ convenience,” he said.
