The project encompasses a four-storey building with 22 classrooms and as well as a basketball court.

“On this day (April 10), last year, we had our stone-laying ceremony and today we are here for its inauguration ceremony.

The inauguration ceremony was enlivened with the upbeat drum performances by Han Chiang secondary school students

“It is a momentous moment in the history of Han Chiang’s educational development.

Ooi said the school has also completed Phase Two of the project which includes the repainting of the existing building, upgrading the school entrance as well as the canteen, construction of the roofed pedestrian walkway, enhancing the school’s green space and so on.

“The whole project cost nearly RM9 million and we would like to thank the state government for its contribution of RM300,000 for this project.

“The school would also like to thank Tan Sri Tan Kok Ping for his contribution of RM5 million,” he added.

An unveiling ceremony of the new building’s name also took place during the event. The building is named ‘Tan Kok Ping Eduhub’.

Ooi hoped that the construction of the ‘Tan Kok Ping Eduhub’ would create a history in the development of Chinese education in Malaysia.

“I also hope that the Han Chiang educational institution would keep progressing and contribute to the education system in Penang.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow who was the chief guest at the event, said the state government is always committed to assisting semi-government schools as well as the independent schools.

“I can see the dedication of the school’s board to improving the learning environment for the school.

“The expansion has enabled the school to go single-session.

“With this success, Penang has entered a new level of educational development.

“We also hope that the pupils would delight in learning in this conducive environment,” said Chow.
