THE Penang government remains committed to providing recreational areas for Penangites to carry out their daily activities.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the Penang Stadium Corporation and Open Spaces (PSDKLPP) has undertaken a series of development involving sports facilities in the state.

“PSDKLPP has established a football field per the FIFA standard at Pokok Sena in Permatang Berangan. Similarly, a running track and a football field at a sports complex in Jalan Betek, Bukit Mertajam have also been upgraded.

“Sports facilities in Balik Pulau Sports Complex have also been improved. There are a few projects under PSDKLPP, which will be completed this year. They are Seberang Jaya public swimming pool, WoodHaven forest park and Nibong Tebal Arena,” he said at a media conference in Taman Supreme, Perai today.

Soon was present to hand over a field in Taman Supreme to the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP).

The upgrading works of the field, which took seven weeks, cost about RM290,000. It was completed on Dec 13 last year.

Soon said he believed that the field would be utilised by the residents nearby.

Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, who is also the Perai assemblyman, expressed his gratitude to PSDKLPP.

“The field will benefit the community in the area as they can carry out their activities at the field.

“I hope PSDKLPP will continue with its effort to increase the quality of the sports facilities in the state,” he said.

Also present were PSDKLPP executive director Rashidah Jalaludin and MBSP Landscape Department head Shaqhrony Md Yusoff.
