Marriott International was represented by its senior director (hotel development) Andree Susilo while Ideal Property Group was represented by its executive chairman Tan Sri Datuk Alex Ooi Kee Liang.

The signing ceremony was also witnessed by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Marriott International, based in Bethesda, Maryland, USA, encompasses a portfolio of nearly 8,900 properties across more than 30 leading brands in 141 countries and territories.

Meanwhile, Ideal Property Group, based in Penang, is a premier real estate developer with over 25 years of industry experience. Renowned for its diversified portfolio, the company has successfully completed more than 30,000 units of residential and commercial properties.

Susilo said the signing marks the company’s second Marriott Hotel and Marriott Residence on the island, following the recent opening of Penang Marriott Hotel in February this year, and the anticipated opening of Penang Marriott Executive Apartments later this year.

“With its proximity to the Bayan Lepas Industrial Zone, it will be ideally situated in the heart of a bustling industrial and commercial hub, offering views of the Penang Bridge.

“This prime location offers convenient access for guests travelling by road to the island from the mainland, and it is only a 15-minute drive from Penang International Airport.

“We are also excited to collaborate with Ideal Property Group to expand our portfolio in Penang, a wonderful leisure destination and thriving economic zone in Malaysia.

“This signing further underscores our commitment to the future of hospitality in Penang and is a testament to the confidence our owners have in our brand,” he said in his speech.

Meanwhile, Ooi said the strategic collaboration sets the stage for a new era of hospitality in Penang and underscores the company’s shared vision and mutual dedication to providing exceptional hospitality experiences.

“We are very excited to announce our agreement with Marriott International, which cements our contribution to Penang’s appeal as a commercial and leisure destination with an array of world-class hospitality offerings.

“Known globally for setting the gold standard in hospitality, Marriott International brings its expertise and commitment to excellence to this partnership,” Ooi said.

Chow said the signing ceremony signifies a momentous advancement in Penang’s journey towards becoming a premier destination for hospitality and residential excellence.

Chow said the signing ceremony signifies a momentous advancement in Penang’s journey towards becoming a premier destination for hospitality and residential excellence.

He highlighted that Marriott International’s reputation for excellence, combined with the distinguished and extensive experience from Ideal Property Group, will undoubtedly set new standards in hospitality and residential living in Penang.

“The synergy between these two esteemed organisations is poised to deliver an unparalleled experience for all who visit or reside here. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Marriott International and Ideal Property Group for this remarkable collaboration.

“Your partnership signifies a strong vote of confidence in Penang’s future and showcases your commitment to our island’s growth and prosperity.

“As Penang continues to evolve, we are witnessing a transformation that combines our rich cultural heritage with modern infrastructure and amenities.

“Developments like the Penang Marriott Hotel Queens Waterfront and Marriott Residences Queens Waterfront, are integral to this transformation, enhancing our appeal as both a commercial hub and a leisure destination,” said Chow in his speech.

Chow added that the project is also anticipated to boost existing infrastructures and developments in the vicinity such as the SPICE Convention Centre, Penang International Airport, Bayan Lepas Industrial Park and the upcoming Penang IC Design and Digital Park.

“This project not only represents a significant investment in our state but also aligns with our vision for a holistic and inclusive growth.

“By providing top-tier hospitality and residential options, we concurrently create high-impact jobs for local employment,” he said.

During a press conference later, when asked to comment regarding the new guidelines for the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme introduced by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry recently, Chow expressed his full support.

“I think other than Sabah and Sarawak, which have autonomy over immigration matters, other Peninsula states would have to comply with national guidelines.

“in this regard, it is better to have a guideline that considers the interest of all states.

“Penang is already a preferred destination for MM2H applicants in the country, so we are fully supportive of these new guidelines,” said Chow.

Also present during the signing ceremony were Penang State Secretary Datuk Rosli Isa, Ideal Property Group executive director Datuk Joanne Phor Li Wei, Marriott International vice-president Karen Eu and Marriott International vice-president (mixed-use development) Penny Trinh.
