CHILDREN nowadays need to equip themselves with martial arts skills to counter sexual abuse.
State executive councillor for Women & Family Development, Gender Inclusiveness & Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Chong Eng said this is important because predators prey on children who seem vulnerable.
“Martial arts can be very effective when children, especially girls, are exposed to dangerous situations that come from the predators.
“Even though it is not a guarantee that it will save them from the predators but at the very least, the children will have the basic knowledge on how to defend themselves against those people.
“Thus, it is not a waste of time to learn martial arts such as karate, taekwondo, judo and wushu.
“Children are a priceless gift from God, thus it is our responsibility to take good care of them,” Chong Eng said in her speech during the early Christmas celebration event at Dewan Taman Jambu Mawar in Bukit Mertajam recently.
More than 200 residents joined the joyous celebration in the spirit of togetherness.
They were also entertained by several vibrant performances such as choir, karaoke session and many more, displaying the true meaning of Christmas.
