THE Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) plays a crucial role in helping Malaysian companies develop and expand their export markets internationally.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow shared this insight while attending the ‘Penang Export Day 2024’ at the Olive Tree Hotel today.

“I have witnessed the success achieved by Penang companies at the global level as a result of MATRADE’s continuous efforts.

“These efforts include organising programmes to promote exports both domestically and internationally.

“I am confident that this event will have a greater and significant impact on entrepreneurs with more practical and up-to-date relevant topics.

“This will help Penang entrepreneurs, especially in learning the ins and outs of the exporting industry.

“The participants will also have the opportunity to meet with the relevant agencies,” Chow added.

Penang Export Day 2024, is a two-day event organised by MATRADE.

Although Malaysia is a small country, it plays a big role in international trade activities. Chow hopes that the efforts made by MATRADE, the Finance Ministry, and other related agencies will propel the country’s economy forward.

“We hope that Penang will continue to excel and perform well in attracting FDI and domestic investment into the state.

“Apart from that, we also aim to achieve greater numbers in terms of exports to the world and I believe we can do it,” he added.

It is reported that Penang remains the top exporter (Jan-May 2024) with total exports of RM177.99 billion, representing an increase of 3.9 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, MATRADE chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican praised Chow for creating the right ecosystem for investment and industry.

Reezal also highlighted the upcoming events by MATRADE, including the Malaysia International Halal Showcase 2024 (MIHAS) exhibition in Dubai from Nov 18 to 20, and Malaysia-China Summit 2024 scheduled for Dec 17–19 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre.
