PENANG Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Kaliyappan P. Renganathan today pledged RM2,000 towards the upkeep of the miniature mushroom farm set up by the management of Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Padang Tembak (SRKPT) in Air Itam.
The miniature farm is also maintained with the assistance of MBPP and Buddhist Tzu Chi Association.
“I hope the mushroom farm will continue to generate some cash for the school fund and at the same time get the students interested in gardening and outdoor work,” Kaliyappan said when he officiated the Excellent Award Day held at the school today.
At the function, about 140 students from the school received their awards in various categories, which included Academic Upgrade, Full Attendance, Best Upkeep For Classroom, UPSR 2018 Best Student, Academic Leader, Student Leader and others.
Also present were SRKPT headmistress Hamidah Hamzah, cocurriculum chairman Yasmin Yusuff, and assistant chairman (administration) Sabra Omar.
Kaliyappan also advised the school management and the students to keep themselves abreast with the latest technological advancement to remain competitive.
Hamidah urged the school teachers to set good examples for students to follow, so they would grow up to be model students and future leaders of the country.
“I am thankful for associations, like Buddhist Tzu Chi, who has helped the schools in their projects,” she added.
