THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has established a Digital Transformation Plan for the state through the development of Smart Island Digital Twin (SmIDaT).
Mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang said through a study conducted since 2019, the council has drawn up various initiatives to be implemented from 2021 to 2025.
“This is in line with our digitalisation approach as we have five high-impact projects supported by real-time data feed and ‘Internet of Things’ (IOT) technology.
“The five high-impact projects are Gigabit City, Robust and Green Data Centre, Virtual Island of Penang, U-Licence (Ubiquitous Licence Management System) and Pearl -One Touch Penang.
“The implementation of SmIDaT projects through digital infrastructure initiative is a comprehensive and smart solution that aims to have a high impact on the efficiency and sustainability of the state.
“Penang is ready to become a digital leader in the region,” he said during a briefing at the MBPP office in Komtar today.
Yew said the state was heading towards the era of artificial intelligence (AI) and robust data driven by technology.
“It is important for us to transform in line with the initiatives,” he added.
