ROAD users, especially those who are dropping off their children at Gate C of SMJK (C) Chung Ling in Taman David Chen, will have to enter via the Jalan Air Itam entrance and exit via the Lorong Batu Lancang entryway.

Taman David Chen will be turned into a one-way street from 6.30am to 8am and from 1pm to 2.30pm during school days to reduce traffic congestion in the area.

Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Connie Tan said the proposal to turn the area into a one-way street was approved after several discussions with the affected parties and residents.

“We have received many complaints from the school, voicing its unhappiness over traffic congestion in the area especially during specific hours of the day.

“After several meetings with the relevant parties and residents, the proposal was accepted without any objection.

“Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng had also meet up with the school representatives and its Parents and Teachers Association.

“The one-way traffic system will help to address traffic woes in the area, especially during the peak hours,” she told a press conference at Taman David Chen today.

“We receive an average of about 300 vehicles per hour during the peak hours. The huge number of vehicles causes a massive traffic jam.

“We are happy with the implementation of the one-way traffic system because it helps to improve traffic flow and enhance road safety.

“It will benefit some 2,200 students in our school,” he said.
