IN preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya festival, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) will be increasing the number of multi-lift garbage containers at several public markets identified as hotspots for waste disposal.
MBPP councillor Rohaizat Hamid said that additional waste collection services would also be provided at the communal and multi-garbage container sites, starting from today until April 9.
“Among the locations earmarked for this initiative are Balik Pulau public market, Kampung Baru Sungai Ara multi-garbage container site, and Jalan Sungai Tiram multi-garbage container site.
“For the communal and multi-garbage container, there will be two collections done in a day. The first one is from 4am to 10am, followed by the second one from noon to 4pm.
“However, domestic waste collection at both landed and multi-storey residential premises will be carried out as per the normal schedule,” Rohaizat said during a press conference today at the MBPP City Hall.
Apart from that, Rohaizat announced an additional service for bulk waste collection at residential premises, provided free of charge until April 9.
“If there is bulk waste in large quantities, kindly contact MBPP at 04-263 3000 or MBPP Hotline at 04-263 7637/ 7000 for the special collection, at least one day before.
“Complaints can also be lodged via Whatsapp at 016-200 4082,” Rohaizat added.
