MBPP shuts down Jelutong Market after 4 new Covid-19 cases reported

THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has ordered the Jelutong Market to shut down with immediate effect following the detection of four Covid-19 cases among the traders today.

MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang said the market, with has a total of 60 stalls inside its premises, would be closed until further notice.

He also said the stalls outside the market, totalling 186 along Jalan Penaga and Lorong Ipoh, had also been ordered to close.

 

The Jelutong Market which is now sealed off until further notice.

“MBPP will carry out sanitisation work and take the necessary action. The state Health Department will also follow up with necessary measures. When the stalls will be allowed to reopen, we will inform the public via the social media.

“I would like to urge everyone to abide by the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“The situation now is worrying and everyone needs to stay safe and stay home,” Yew told a press conference via Zoom this afternoon.

Yew also advised other security personnel or market associations to only allow market-goers with low-risk status shown on their MySejahtera app to enter the premises.
