A TOTAL of 227 employees of the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) were honoured at the MBPP Excellent Services Awards 2022 at Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas today.
Each was rewarded with RM1,000 for their outstanding services.
MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang said the recipients were rewarded under the city council’s Excellent Service Awards 2022 for discharging their duties excellently last year.
“Apart from the RM1,000 cash reward, each recipient also received a certificate and an opportunity to further develop their careers such as by attending courses, seminars or conferences.
“I hope with such recognition, all of you will continue to give your excellent services to the MBPP for many years to come.
“At the same time, we also hope that we can see more MBPP employees receive this yearly award after this,” Yew said during the awards presentation ceremony.
Also present were state Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo and MBPP secretary Datuk A. Rajendran.
Jagdeep said this special programme to award local council workers for their outstanding services will continue every year.
“From the bottom of my heart, I also would like to thank and congratulate all the recipients today for their valuable contributions to the MBPP all these years.
“Your services will never be forgotten by us. You are the front liners; without all of you, the city council cannot operate properly,” he said.
One of the award recipients, Afiza Abdul Wahab, thanked MBPP for the recognition.
“This is my first time receiving the award since working in MBPP as a programmer under the Information Technology (IT) Department five years ago.
“And it will boost my spirit to always do my best in my field.
“At the same time, I hope that my friends also will get it next year,” said Afiza, who was previously working in the Immigration Department in Putrajaya.
For Wan Rozanna Mohamed Ismail, it is her second time getting the recognition.
“The first time I got the award was in 2008. I am so glad to be able to get it for the second time.
“It is an honour for me and I would like to thank MBPP for such recognition.
“Rest assured, I will continue to give my full commitment to carrying out my duty as an officer in the MBPP enforcement team,” said Wan Rozanna, who has been with MBPP for 20 years.
During the event, a total of 78 employees who would be retiring this year were also honoured.
Each of them received a certificate of appreciation.
Yew thanked all of them for their services all these years.
“I also would like to encourage MBPP staff to keep in touch with the retirees or those who are going to retire to learn and get the necessary advice. This can help them improve themselves as they serve MBPP,” said Yew.
MBPP senior health inspector Goh Eng Chun said it has been nice working for the council for 32 years.
“I am proud to see so many positive changes MBPP has gone through all these years.
“MBPP also has made several achievements and received a lot of accolades locally and internationally.
“I hope when I retire in November this year, MBPP will continue the good momentum. After all, MBPP will always be in my heart,” he said.
