THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has been awarded RM1,500 by the state Local Government, Town, and Country Planning Committee chairman H’ng Mooi Lye, in recognition of their outstanding performance at this year’s Penang International Dragon Boat Regatta.

Held over the weekend of Nov 23 and 24, the regatta attracted over 1,600 paddlers from 61 teams representing 12 countries. The scenic Straits Quay Marina in Tanjung Tokong provided a stunning backdrop for the event.

The MBPP team delivered remarkable results across various categories. In the Malaysia Open, they secured 2nd place in the 250-metre race and 3rd place in the 400-metre race. Competing in the International Open, the team achieved 3rd place in the 250-metre race and 7th place in the 400-metre category.

During a special ceremony at the City Hall, the team proudly displayed their trophies as H’ng presented the monetary contribution in the presence of MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran.

“This is a small token of appreciation to recognise the team’s hard work and achievements. We hope they will continue to excel and achieve even greater success in the future,” H’ng said.
