MBPP to bar services for defaulters from April 1

THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has announced that those with outstanding payments will be barred from accessing its services effective April 1.

 

MBPP mayor Datuk A.Rajendran shared this during a press conference held after the council’s regular meeting at City Hall today.

 

According to Rajendran, a total of 21 services will be denied to those with unpaid arrears. These include planning permission applications via heritage pre-consultation plans, applications for building repair permits, building plan permits, and rentals for community halls, stadiums, and other facilities.The restriction will also apply to suppliers offered quotations and tenders by the various departments.

Rajendran shared that as of now, the total outstanding amount stands at RM114.3 million involving 103,209 cases for payments such as assesment tax, public renting, renting of markets/ complexes and miscellaneous bills.

 

“We have sent out many notices to defaulters, some of whom have yet to settle their payments. That is why we need to enforce this. The public can can check their outstanding via MBPP’s PEARL-One Touch app,” he said.

Rajendran emphasised that if the arrears are settled, the funds could be used for the community’s benefit.

 

On a separate matter, Rajendran said the MBPP has recently submitted an application to the Federal government to establish an Urban Transformation Centre in Teluk Kumbar. The proposed centre aims to serve residents in the area and nearby places such as Balik Pulau and Bayan Lepas.

 

“The UTC is planned to be set up at MBPP’s proposed public market complex in Teluk Kumbar, offering services from three agencies; the National Registration Department (JPN), the Road Transport Department (JPJ), and the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

 

“We have just submitted our application and need to give the Federal government some time to respond,” he said.
