THE Waste Segregation at Source policy will be reintroduced in Penang next month to reduce environmental pollution.
Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk A. Rajendran said the enforcement would begin in July to raise awareness about the importance of waste separation.
“It is an important milestone initiated by our MBPP councillors to disseminate information on such a mission. This policy is set to enhance the state and the local authority’s efforts to educate the community.
“We look forward to the implementation of the initiative next month,” he said when launching the programme in front of City Hall, Esplanade today.
The initiative, originally launched in 2017, was promoted in residential areas but was stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Rajendran emphasised the importance of waste segregation and recycling efforts.
“The waste segregation tanks will be placed at several public places as part of the programme,” he said, adding they intend to inculcate waste segregation knowledge in the public.
