IN conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year celebration next week, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has announced extra domestic waste collection rounds to cope with the increased waste capacity in the island.
MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang said apart from the normal waste collection rounds from Monday until Saturday, there would be an additional waste collection on Jan 24 (Friday) and Jan 25 (Saturday).
“Extra domestic waste collection will also be arranged on Jan 26 if the volume of waste collected is found to exceed that of the normal daily collection,” he said at a press conference held at the solid waste transfer station in Batu Maung this morning.
For public convenience to dispose bulk trash, like old furniture, mattress, pillow and other items, MBPP will supply eight multi-lift containers at various public markets which are hot spots for waste disposal during CNY festival from Jan 20.
“MBPP will give added service of bulk trash disposal from Jan 15 to Jan 24. This service complements the existing service of the council.
“Please cooperate by putting the bulk trash of normal size in front of your residence.
“If there is a need to dispose off bulk trash of a large volume, please contact MBPP service department at 04-2824284 (office hours) to utilise this facility which is free of charge from Jan 20 to Jan 24,” Yew commented.
Yew said the added waste disposal services given by the council are free of charge.
He seeks public cooperation not to give any financial reward for the waste disposal and cleaning up services by council employees on duty.
The public can report any demand for financial reward at MBPP hotline 04-2637637 (24 hours), MBPP WhatsApp 016-200 4082 and MBPP Service Department at 04-2633000 (office hours).
