MBS kicks off STEM Month to inspire future innovators

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering Mathematics) education plays a vital role in preparing individuals to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future.

 

During the launch of ‘STEM Month’ at Methodist Boys’ School (MBS) today, its senior administrative assistant Dr Taufek Muhamad emphasised the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education for students’ future.

 

“MBS is committed to providing the best STEM education for our students and making the learning interesting and meaningful for them.

 

“Thank you to all the contributors and relevant agencies for their support of our programme. STEM education is the key to success,” Dr Taufek added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, who was the guest of honour at the launching ceremony, advised the students to obey their parents and listen to teachers’ instructions.

 

“Studies will take you to great heights, and you must always bear in mind that without teachers, we cannot progress forward.

 

“All of you are the future generation of Penang. Study hard, obey your parents, and listen to your teachers, and stay here,” Jagdeep added.

 

It is known that MBS is a school that has produced many leaders not only for the state but also for the country.

 

Penang State Education Department education development sector deputy district officer (northeast education office) Mohd Mursalin Ramli@Yusof stated that the state is one step ahead of other states in terms of STEM initiatives.

The activities throughout the month include a STEM Carnival, Rubik’s Cube competition, Lucky Draw Sudoku, Straw Aeroplane competition, Pythagoras Tree competition, Maths Puzzle competition, Science Radar Exhibition, Science Quiz, and many others.

 

Form 3 students Jagathes Sivakumar, Bhavin Singh Seravanah Singh, Hemanth Raj Poomathan, and Rishi Kartikeyean Kumaresan invented a long-range plane as part of their participation in STEM activities.

The enthusiastic young boys said it took them three months to build the plane, which worked when they demonstrated it to Buletin Mutiara.
