MBSP boost-ing digital payments

THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has doubled its efforts towards a cashless society by teaming up with E-wallet player, Boost, to provide more options for cashless transaction.

MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said through the collaboration, Seberang Perai residents can now use the Boost app to pay their stall rental, tax assessment and parking compound.

“So, they now have more choices to do their cashless transaction whether through the existing cyber counters provided by the city council or through this e-wallet platform. Both are convenient and faster.

“It is also to encourage Seberang Perai folk to opt for this safer method of payment compared to cash payment, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“It can also minimise human movement to control the spread of the virus,” Rozali said in his speech before state Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo officiated the launching of the platform at the MBSP building in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam today.

Also present were Boost product and marketing director Ungku Norliza Syazwan Ungku Halmie, Boost territory manager Tan Yun Wah and MBSP secretary Rosnani Mahmod.

Rozali said by using the Boost app, user could set a payment reminder for their bills.

“With this, they can consistently be paying their bills within the time frame.

“They can also keep a record of a frequently used bill for easy direct access and it saves a lot of time without having to enter bill details every time before making a payment,” he added.

To know more details about how to use the Boost app to pay MBSP bills, the public can go to the city council official website at https://www.mbsp.gov.my/.

Jagdeep commended MBSP for the smart initiative to encourage more Seberang Perai folk to go cashless.

“The move is also in line with our Penang2030 vision of ‘A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’.

“Therefore, the state government strongly supports the smart initiatives taken by any agencies under its administration.

“By opting for a cashless transaction, it will not only prevent the spread of Covid-19, but it will also allow the people to spend digitally and thus protect themselves from becoming a theft victim.

“Thus, I hope Seberang Perai residents will support the initiative by opting for a cashless transaction without having to physically present themselves at the MBSP counters. Everything is at our fingertips now,” he said.

Jagdeep also urged both local councils in the state to continue to monitor all active Covid-19 clusters in Penang before the state government consider requesting Putrajaya to lift the ongoing conditional movement control order (CMCO) earlier.

Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob had yesterday announced the CMCO imposed on Kedah, Melaka, Johor and Terengganu would end at midnight today (Saturday).

“The Penang government took note of the Federal Government’s decision yesterday to end CMCO earlier in several states.

“However, Penang is not in a hurry and will follow any instructions that are recommended by the Health Ministry to flatten the chain of infection from the virus. After all, public health and safety is our utmost priority.

“Currently, Penang has 11 active Covid-19 clusters and if all of these clusters are under control, then we can consider to request for CMCO in Penang to be lifted earlier,” he said.

Jagdeep also said that the Penang government is ready to conduct Covid-19 screenings on 130,000 foreign workers in the state as instructed by the Federal Government yesterday to prevent the spread of the virus.

The CMCO, which began on Nov 9, is set to end on Dec 6.
