THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has prohibited the usage of facilities at outdoor gyms and children’s playgrounds in Seberang Perai.
MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the city council has also sealed off the equipment in the yellow zone – namely Mukim 1 and Mukim 11 in central Seberang Perai and Mukim 5 in south Seberang Perai.
“We urge the public not to remove the tapes from the equipment,” he said.
Rozali said that the initiative was among the 13 resolutions taken by MBSP to curb the spread of Covid-19, following the detection of four new cases recently.
MBSP has also banned dine-in at hawker stalls in the yellow zone. Only takeaways are allowed at both hawker stalls and roadside stalls.
Penang Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo reminded business operators not to allow visitors who do not obey the standard operating procedures (SOP) into their premises.
He said action could be taken against both the operators as well as the SOP violators.
“It is not only the responsibility of the patrons. The operators or business owners must also bear the responsibility to ensure SOP compliance in order to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.
“This is a reminder to all premises owners. Do not let those who disobey the SOP into your premises.
“I have also instructed the city councils to be more stringent in their enforcement,” he told a press conference in Komtar today.
Jagdeep also urged everyone to practise self-regulation by adhering to the SOP.
“The MBSP has conducted 449,231 checks as of Aug 12 and the compliance rate was 99.34%.
“Meanwhile, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) carried out 209,996 checks. The compliance rate was 99.56%,” he said.
Jagdeep said that the city councils and the police had also conducted joint operations from June 10 to Aug 6.
“A total of 274 compounds of RM1,000 each has been issued by the police in Penang throughout the period,” he said.
MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang called for the people’s cooperation to combat the coronavirus.
“We cannot afford, and we do not want to see another lockdown.
“Please practise physical distancing, wear the face mask and wash your hands. Please also advise SOP violators to obey the SOP,” he said.
