THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has granted an extension for the relocation period of hawkers and traders currently operating at a temporary site in Seberang Jaya.
It is learned that these hawkers and traders, originally from the Jalan Tenggiri Food Complex and Seberang Jaya Public Market, were temporarily relocated to facilitate the reconstruction of the Seberang Jaya Public Market and Hawker Centre.
MBSP mayor Datuk Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid announced the extension during a press conference at MBSP headquarters in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam today.

Baderul shared that the relocation involves a total of 90 hawkers and traders from the Jalan Tenggiri Food Complex and 100 from Seberang Jaya Public Market.
“The MBSP has agreed to grant a grace period until April 15 for all hawkers and traders to relocate to the reconstructed Seberang Jaya Public Market and Hawker Centre.
“However, those who wish to relocate earlier are welcome to do so.
“Rental payments will take effect from May 1. Payments can be made using one of two options: a one-month deposit followed by three months’ rent (1+3) in the subsequent month, or three months’ rent plus a one-month deposit (3+1) in the following month,” Badrul added.
The reconstruction work of the building began in 2019 and was completed in 2024.
Badrul also added that the Ramadan bazaar hawkers, currently operating at the temporary site, would be allowed to remain there until March 30.
Responding to traders’ requests for lower rent, he explained that the market is classified as A-grade, and the rental rates are the same as other A-grade markets in Seberang Jaya.

The newly reconstructed Seberang Jaya Public Market and Hawker Centre now houses 253 stalls, comprising 112 wet stalls, 51 dry stalls, and 90 booths at the hawker centre.
