THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has announced a legalisation programme for illegally built home extensions, offering discounts of up to 70%. The initiative will commence this February.
MBSP mayor Datuk Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid announced that Phase One of the programme would cover housing areas up to five years old in the north Seberang Perai, central Seberang Perai, and couth Seberang Perai districts.
“The approval process will be streamlined, and applicants will not incur any fees for their applications,” Baderul said during the council meeting in Bukit Mertajam today.
“Apart from the 70% rebates, those who participate in this programme need not appoint any consultants or architects.
“By participating, homeowners can also see an increase in the market value of their properties,” he added.

Baderul said the new schedule commenced on Jan 20 till 22 and will continue from Jan 23 to 25 and Jan 26 to 28, ensuring cleaner neighbourhoods ahead of the Chinese New Year celebrations.
“The garbage from wet markets, apartments, condominiums, and stratified housing areas will be collected three times a week. This initiative will greatly benefit the people in Seberang Perai,” Baderul said.
