THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has launched a subsidy neutering programme to address the problem of stray animal overpopulation on the mainland.

MBSP mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad said the programme commenced on May 14 and will run until Dec 31 this year.

Azhar said the programme commenced on May 14 and will run until Dec 31 this year.

“The programme targets pets such as dogs and cats to help control the animal population and mitigate associated health and behavioural issues.

“This initiative also marks an important step in promoting responsible pet ownership and controlling the canine population.

“Under this subsidy neutering programme, the pet owners or non-governmental organisations (NGOs) can bring their pets to designated private veterinary clinics in the mainland.

“The participating private clinics involved are Klinik Veterinar Pet Wellness (north Seberang Perai district), Klinik Veterinar Venice (central Seberang Perai district) dan Klinik Veterinar Introvet in south Seberang Perai district,” Azhar told reporters after the full council meeting at the MBSP headquarters building in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam today.

According to Azhar, the subsidy provided under this programme is RM100 for each dog and RM50 for each cat.

Azhar explained that the subsidy would not be given in cash but would be deducted from the neutering cost at the participating veterinary clinics.

He also encourages more people, including NGOs, to take advantage of this opportunity and bring their pets or stray animals for neutering at a reduced rate.
