THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has prepared 100 types of services for its cyber counters as an effort to adapt to the new norm due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the setup of cyber counters was crucial to encourage the Seberang Perai residents to do the necessary transactions with the city council via online to minimise human movement to control the spread of the virus.

“The public can access the cyber counters through MBSP website at https://www.mbsp.gov.my/

“All types of services that were offered through the usual service counters can now be done via online.

“So, the people on the mainland do not necessarily need to come to the MBSP office to do their various transactions. Everything is at our fingertips now,” Rozali told Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow during his visit to the MBSP building in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam today.

Also present was Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar.

The visit was to observe the new norm practises by the city council.

Rozali said among the 100 types of services offered through cyber counters are online payments involving various types of MBSP services, the payment of utility bills from other agencies, various online applications and others.

“But for the people who are not tech-savvy or without online platforms, we have introduced a ‘Cyber Counter Corner’ where we have provided a few computers at the counters section in MBSP headquarter.

“So, they just need to come here and our customer service officers will teach them the details on the use of the digital services provided at the cyber counters.

“Hopefully through this initiative, it will give them some clear understanding of how the digital services work and how convenient it is,” he added.

Chow commended such efforts taken by MBSP to encourage digital services among the Seberang Perai residents.

“To me, one of the positive things that we can learn from the Covid-19 pandemic is that it has accelerated digital transformation among the people.

“Through digital services also, the percentage rate of cashless transactions for MBSP until April 30 this year has increased to 43% compared to only 39% for the whole year of 2019.

“This is a good indicator that the people have started to adapt to the use of digital services in their daily life.

“Thus, I hope the use of digital services will increase more among our people as it is also in line with our Penang2030 vision of ‘A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’,” Chow added.
