THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) is gearing up for massive disinfection works in the public places on the mainland should any of its districts be classified as Covid-19 red zone.
MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said a district is categorised as a red zone area once it reaches more than 40 Covid-19 cases.
“There are also orange zone (21 to 40 cases), yellow zone (one to 20 cases) and green zone (no Covid-19 cases).
“As of April 8, the highest number of Covid-19 cases is detected in central Seberang Prai district with 37 cases which falls under the orange zone.
“So that means we have no red zone at the moment, but if we ever come to that, MBSP is well prepared to face it,” Rozali told reporters after witnessing the training on the usage of heavy machinery vehicles for massive disinfection works at Sri Penanti wet market in Penanti yesterday (April 8).
According to Rozali, MBSP is also carrying out disinfection works once every two days at the markets under the council but only in small scale.
“And with massive disinfection works, we will be using special machinery vehicles that are sponsored by the Agricultural Chemical (M) Sdn Bhd.
“They allow us to use their vehicles for the disinfection process that will be focused on Covid-19 hotspots and various places of interest in Seberang Perai.
“Hopefully, this would help to prevent the further spread of the disease,” he added.
Until 5pm today, there is no new Covid-19 case recorded in Penang.
The next highest number of Covid-19 cases after central Seberang Perai is north Seberang Prai district with 20 cases. This is followed by south Seberang Prai with 11 cases.
