Baderul said the competition has seen steady growth over the years, with increasing participation from secondary schools, primary schools, kindergartens, and preschools.

“This year alone, a total of 114,608.53kg of recyclables were collected, pushing the cumulative total past 600,000kg—a truly remarkable achievement.

“Participation has also risen significantly, particularly in the primary school category, which saw an increase to 34 schools, compared to the previous year,” he said during the prize-giving ceremony held at MBSP headquarters in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam recently.

Baderul highlighted that the active involvement of students reflects their growing awareness and commitment to environmental conservation.

“This competition demonstrates that even small, consistent efforts can create a huge impact on our community and environment,” he added.

This year’s competition also saw more than 20 schools being recognised as winners across different categories, showcasing their dedication to sustainability through creative and effective recycling initiatives.

Baderul also expressed his hope that the recycling competition will continue to receive strong support in the coming years.

“Educational institutions play a vital role in shaping a more environmentally-conscious society.

“Therefore, we must continue to strengthen recycling initiatives, not just in schools but as part of our daily lives.

“MBSP remains committed to supporting and enhancing environmental preservation efforts, in line with our mission to create a low-carbon and livable city,” he said.

Baderul added that with the growing success of the competition, MBSP aims to further empower schools and communities to adopt sustainable practices, ensuring a greener and cleaner future for Seberang Perai.
