RESIDENTS of Cangkat Minden Jalan 6 and 7 can now breathe a sigh of relief after the drainage system upgrading works in their area had been completed.
The works, which were undertaken by the Public Works Department (JKR), took about three months to complete.
They were carried out under the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris) grant of about RM500,000.
Among the major works done were the increase in the width of the drains from 1.2m to 1.5m, and fixing the railings along the drains.
Over at Cangkat Minden Jalan 3, flood mitigation works are still ongoing at 80% completion, said a spokesperson from JKR.
It is understood that the cost of the project is about RM800,000 and was also carried out under the Marris grant.
Batu Uban assemblyman A. Kumaresan said the residents had been suffering from flash floods, especially during downpours, for many years.
“I have been continuously bringing up the matter and I am happy that the drainage system upgrading project has finally been completed.
“We thank the JKR, state Irrigation and Drainage Department, and all other relevant authorities for the effort,” Kumaresan said when met at Minden Heights today.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow thanked Kumaresan for voicing the residents’ needs.
“This is not the first flood mitigation project in Minden Heights.
“We hope that these flood mitigation projects can benefit the residents in the area,” he said.
Also present was northeast district officer Rosli Halim.
