PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow is considering the request by Kelab Media Mutiara Pulau Pinang to have a place for its members to perform their duties.
The club told the Penang Chief Minister that it was seeking a place within the Komtar vicinity.
Chow, who officiated the club’s media appreciation and news award ceremony this evening, said he would look into the matter.
“I wish to help the media practitioners to find such premises to ease their hardships.
“I understand that some journalists, especially those from the online media, are facing difficulties in finding a place to write their articles,” he said in his speech at Vouk Hotel Suites in George Town today.
Chow, had earlier, lauded the media practitioners for their instrumental role towards the state’s development.
“The media have been a pillar of the state’s success, especially in delivering news and accurate reporting to their readers.
“I understand that the media have been facing challenges these few years. The significant development of social media has become part of the challenges facing the industry,” he said.
Chow also thanked the media for their tireless efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I am proud to be here to celebrate the achievements and valuable contributions that have been contributed by the members of Kelab Media Mutiara Pulau Pinang,” he said.
Chow hoped to continue fostering a strong bond with the media in Penang.
He also praised Kelab Media Mutiara Pulau Pinang for organising a series of corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes to benefit those in need.
Kelab Media Mutiara Pulau Pinang president Mohd Iskandar Othman thanked Chow for his support.
“We hope to continue our strong rapport with the state to disseminate accurate news to the people of Penang,” he said.
Among those present were Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) School of Communication deputy dean Dr Mohamad Saifudin Mohamad Saleh.
