FOR someone who started with little to no knowledge of baking, producing delicious brownies is certainly an achievement to be proud of!
Adeline Enoch, a home-based baker from Bukit Mertajam, made an odd switch — from working with numbers as an accountant to counting teaspoons of sugar for her pastries.
With a full-time job as an accountant and a clingy child seemed a daunting task for 30-year-old Adeline, which prompted her to start a home-based business instead.
Hence, she launched ‘Adedelights’ in 2023, selling premium brownies, cheese tarts and other pastries.
In an exclusive interview with Buletin Mutiara on Oct 17, Adeline shared that her commitment to being present for her daughter led her to start her own business.
“My daughter is very attached to me, and working full-time as an accountant made it difficult to be away,” Adeline said.
“I had zero experience when I started baking last year, but I did a lot of self-learning, mainly by watching online baking videos.
“It wasn’t an easy decision; I had to ensure I could bake without interruptions to meet my quality standards.
“That’s why I usually bake at midnight, when my daughter is asleep, doing it on my own with minimal help or no help at all.
“It was tough, but perseverance and hard work kept me going.
“My best seller is my brownies. Most of my customers have given positive reviews after trying them,” Adeline said.
Adeline receives orders for special occasions and festivals throughout the year, and her customers are not only from Penang but as far as Johor Bahru, Melaka, Perak and Kuala Lumpur.
She added that while she was aware of the potential challenges in setting up her business, her primary concern was her daughter because she wanted to give the best care possible.
She also praised her husband for being her backbone, always supportive and encouraging in all her efforts.
