THE Malaysian Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Penang has been pivotal in organising trade fairs, business delegations, and networking events, which have created numerous opportunities for local businesses to expand their reach and establish global connections.

During MICCI Penang’s 100th-anniversary celebration dinner at The Light Hotel on June 22, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow praised MICCI Penang for its diverse contributions to the state’s economy.

“The Penang government acknowledges the extensive contributions of MICCI Penang,” he said.

Chow also praised the Chamber’s initiatives in workforce development.

“Recognising the value of a skilled workforce, the Chamber has launched training programmes and workshops to enhance the skills of both entrepreneurs and employees.

“These efforts have not only boosted business efficiency but also created more job opportunities for locals,” he remarked.

In addition, Chow acknowledged MICCI Penang president Datuk S. Parthiban’s ambition to collaborate with various government agencies.

“As Chief Minister, I commend Datuk S. Parthiban’s desire to work closely with government agencies to elevate both the Chamber and the Indian business community to greater heights.

“This collaboration will enable us to look back with pride on our collective efforts to improve the livelihoods of our fellow citizens,” Chow said.

In his address, Parthiban expressed gratitude for Chow’s interest in Indian affairs and development.

“Since I took over, our membership has doubled from 200 to 400 members in the past year, and we aim to reach 500 members before our next annual general meeting (AGM).

“We plan to purchase an office building in the north Seberang Perai district to expand our services to our mainland members,” he said.

The event also saw the presentation of several awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, Malaysian National Business Award, and Best Entrepreneur Award.

Notable attendees included state Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu, Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng, Deputy Minister of Unity Saraswathy Kandasami, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Law and Institutional Reform M. Kulasegaran, Senator R.A. Lingeshwaran, and Malaysian Associated Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry president (MAICCI) Datuk Seri N. Gobalakrishnan.
